Professional Training – Our World in Miniature: Sand Tray Skills for Professionals

October 13 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

| $85.00

Sand tray is often considered the psychotherapy for children — almost a term that substitutes for “play therapy.” In fact, the use of a sand tray and miniatures offers an extremely useful way to work with teens, adults, couples and groups.

“Our World in Miniature: Sand Tray Skills for Professionals” will be presented from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, October 13, at the Samaritan Counseling Center, 1803 Oregon Pike, Lancaster. Instructor will be Karen Carnabucci, LCSW, TEP, who has been working with, refining and integrating sand tray techniques and styles since the 1990s.

In this professional training workshop, participants will become acquainted with the versatility of sand tray for a variety of settings and populations, as well as expand their skills by integrating complimentary creative arts therapies and other experiential methods in the sand tray process.

Sand tray is especially helpful in concretizing, clarifying and resolving the conflicting energies, motivations, values, and voices that often contribute to a sense of “stuckness” with our clients. Its in-hand availability easily engages people who may have difficulty in talking about their problems or life issues, and the images that are formed and re-formed are compatible with the latest research on neurobiology and how our brain and being accept new images into consciousness.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • History and origins of sandtray and sand tray and how each is related but different.
  • What you will need to set up a sand tray, including classic sand tray supplies and alternatives for various settings.
  • Demonstrations of simple interventions.
  • How to introduce the sand tray process to the people you work with.
  • The use of the sand tray for self disclosure, identifying problems and problem solving.
  • Options for the use of the sand tray for explorations with other creative arts, as well as psychodrama and Family Constellations.
  • Options for individuals, couples, families and groups.

There will be ample time for questions, discussion and case consultation, as well as the option to address personal issues in a confidential atmosphere.

Tuition is $85 if registered by October 9, $95 after. It includes six continuing education hours for social workers, marriage and family therapists and professional counselors, plus psychodrama hours, and handout, beverages and healthy snacks.

In addition:

Participants will have the opportunity to purchase a package of “starter” miniatures for a nominal fee.

A selection of Karen’s books, including “Show and Tell Psychodrama: Skills for Therapists, Coaches, Teachers, Leaders” and “Healing Eating Disorders with Psychodrama and Other Action Methods: Beyond the Silence and the Fury,” will be available for sale.
