Professional Training: Beyond the Genogram: Discovering Gifts, Trauma and Resilience in the Family Tree

August 25 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

| $85

“Beyond the Genogram: Discovering Gifts, Trauma and Resilience in The Family Tree” is the title of the professional training that will focus how to construct the genogram to understand the deeper inter-generational trauma in your clients’ family systems, as well as their strengths. The training program is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, August 25, at the Samaritan Counseling Center, 1803 Oregon Pike, Lancaster.

In this training, instructed by Karen Carnabucci, LCSW, TEP, we go beyond the “usual” genogram to focus not only on your clients, but on your clients’ family systems to reveal important information for a fuller understanding of their family and personal relationships, as well as the affects of inter-generational trauma on their relationships, emotions, physical health and well being.

We will look at the value of expanding the typical genogram diagram and learn a related – and highly useful – social atom diagram for therapeutic assessment, client awareness and as a warm up for deep experiential healing.

Karen will include teaching the use of action methods, particularly psychodrama, Family Constellations, guided imagery and the creative arts, to address family system information. The workshop will consist of didactic teaching, questions, demonstrations and opportunities to bring clinical case studies forward for supervision.

You will learn:

• How to ask useful questions to reveal information about inter-generational trauma that may be lingering within your client’s body, brain and spirit.
• How to understand your personal family system, both today and in previous generations for your greater consciousness.
• How to construct genogram and social atom diagrams and their adaptations.
• How to integrate Bert Hellinger’s “Orders of Love” philosophy into your perspective when working with individuals, families and groups.
• How to integrate Dr. J.L. Moreno’s “social atom” into your perspective when working with individuals, families and groups.
• How to introduce experiential modalities for psychotherapy and education.
• How to integrate psychodramatic and sociometric concepts in your work, along with concepts of Family and Systemic Constellations.

You will also have the option to address personal issues in a confidential setting. You may bring your lunch or plan to go out for a 45-minute lunch. Tuition is $85 (before August 21, $95 after) and will include CE credits for social workers, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors and addiction counselors, plus psychodrama credits.

The training is appropriate for mental health and other health professionals, educators, life coaches, clergy, community activists and others who work in social services programs as well as advanced students.

In addition, a selection of Karen’s books for professionals will be available for sale.
